Update on West Chester Vision Plan

West Chester Vision Plan

To be able to stay great, we need a plan. If we don’t have goals and a vision, we will not have direction. One of my goals is to make sure West Chester looks to the future, and over the past 18 months, we have been working hard to develop and implement a vision for West Chester.

Our team is on what I consider to be the third step in reevaluating and updating our vision plan.

Step One: Get the team on the same page - The Strategic Plan

Last year we took the step to create a Strategic Plan for the Township. This document guides our staff at Township Hall on things that the Trustees and fellow staff members believe are important goals. The Township team met last summer to create this plan with a wonderful team from P&G to help facilitate. The following six themes were developed and will be implemented.

  • Quality of Life

  • Organizational High Performance

  • Citizen Engagement

  • Physical Infrastructure

  • Economic Development

  • Partnering

The strategic plan will also be updated on our Open Gov transparency portal every six months so you can see the progress. Find that story here.

Step Two: Looking at the Vision of the Past

Before we can look to the future, we need to review the past.  What worked?  What did we get done?  Are there areas that were successful and areas that were not successful?

We have developed a Task Force to review the 2025 Vision Plan that was developed in 2006.  This Task Force can have more members.  If you are interested,

These community members will take a few weeks to review the old plan and provide a report for the Trustees and the developing Vision Committee.

Step Three: Ask what Residents think

The West Chester Trustees voted to commission the National Community Survey.  This survey is a statistically relevant questioning of residents regarding all issues that the Township deals with. It will give us good numbers and the chance to see priorities of our residents. Its important to know what our residents are thinking.

Step Four: Begin the Visioning Committee

The Vision Committee will be driven by our citizens. Asking for input about what residents and business want to see in the future. Our first Vision Plan was done in 1993. In 2006, the Township wrote a 2025 Vision. This vision served the township very well. It looked forward to seeing the needs over the past 13 years.

Read the 2006 Vision plan here.

Since the first twenty-year vision plan was adopted in 1993, West Chester has undergone a significant transformation h1to a community that is recognized as one of the finest places to live in the United States.

During the next 20 years, it is forecast that our population will grow to nearly 80,000 with our land almost entirely developed. West Chester will be reaching its "critical mass." It is our vision to channel growth, mature and develop as a vibrant community, ensure our ongoing sustainability, and continue to be a respected community where families grow, and businesses prosper.

We have limited resources, yet unlimited vision and spirit. The next 20 years represent our greatest opportunity to build a lasting infrastructure and quality services that are affordable for all our citizens.
